  • Where to start...

I know all men hate nagging women but...lol

My guy works for his family company building gates for apartment complexes and things like that. So I do not think he is "technically" a certified welder. But he is AMAZING at what he does. Ive seen his work! I think that if I were to talk to him about becoming certified and getting in with an excellent company, he would thrive! I guess my question is where is he to start? How much do classes/tests cost? What would he need to do?

Jump in DDA and Txwelderguy...but I don't believe welders per sey make that much money in SA...to many non-certified being used for lots of the work. At least that what I've been led to believe. Specialized, like pipeline, steamfitter and boiler welders, and for some special industries do advertised for them locally from time-to-time. I also imagine the oil rigs are doing lots of upgrades and repairs after the hurricane season.
The Steamfitters Union used to have an Apprenticeship/Education package, but I don't know if they still do. The various state's Department of Employment Security used to maintain statistics on local career opportunities, requirements, and prospects...don't know if they still do.
