Thanks to Bill C2 for the idea. I hope you don't mind. I loved your pigs, so I had to make one for the backyard. We live on a hill, so I thought a flying pig at the top of the yard would be cool. He doesn't look quite as good as the originals, but it turned out ok. I had some trouble on the thicker ears to the thinner freon tank. Weld looks bad, but...

Thanks to Bill C2 and everyone else here for the ideas and inspiration to try new things with new materials.

I think it looks pretty darn good. I like it.

Art is not always perfect. It is the little imperfections that give some art character. (in my case....a lot of imperfections).

mnt, I don’t mind at all!

I’m a marathon runner (slower as the years add up) and one of the organizers of the Pocono Marathon. To add a little extra, each year I make some sort of metal sculpture to be given as a prize to someone in the local running club. All they have to do is run a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon!

This is the 2008 award give in May.

It's Freon... or whatever refrigerant is in current use... not Propane.

                        Bill C2,

Are those copper wings? That thing is nice. I really like making the pigs, and it gives me good practice welding on the thinner stuff.

                        Thanks again.

Tool, my tanks are non-refillable Freon jugs. I don’t need to purge them. If using a propane tank, soap and water will get the oil and such out. Then a solution of 5% chlorine bleach will help get the stink out. After that you’re on tour own!

I think Hotfoot had a post with a picture of two guys that didn’t do the “purge” thing correctly. Be safe and be sure to post pics.

                          mnt,

The wings have a copper wash finish with some Easy Torch to get the blue-purple as if done with a torch.

Welding on the thin tank takes some practice. I use .023 wire straight co2, HH175 turned all the way down.
