Windchimes

Ok, here we go. I am trying to post some pics of something I am finally happy enough to post up here. Hopefully the pics work.

It is a set of windchimes, The longest chime is 27 inches. It is loosely tuned. I am tone deaf when it comes to notes, but it sounds nice. I did some research and found a website that lets you input material type, diameter and thickness and it will give you lengths for different notes.

How did you cut the metal hanging from the clapper? Plasma?

I also like the crankshaft stool, how is the steering wheel to sit on?

Plasma cutter is on the wish list. I went with the old fashioned method of using a jig saw with a metal cutting blade. The clapper is aluminum, so it was easy to cut. Not as easy as with a plasma cutter tho.

This was a fun project. I plan on a couple more. I rescued some disgarded handrails for the chimes. The ring is a pot hanger that was getting tossed as well. I clear coated the chimes, but with the stiker hitting them, they will rust anyway. No biggie. The only stuff that was paid for was the chain and some small S hooks. Less than $20.00 for everything.

The crankshaft stool is actually going to be an endtable. I just need to get a piece of glass or plexiglass to go over the top. It is for my brother in law, who donates scrapped stuff to me. He actually gave me the motor the crank shaft came out of and the steering wheel. If you look up gear head in the dictionary you see his picture. So I think he will like it.

This guy has done a lot of work with windchimes and tuning and has loads of good info. I didn't even read the whole site, but the calculator is a link on the page. "javascript length calculator" or something like that.

try putting a rubber "O ring" on the bottom of the pipes to adjust the sound..
