What type of wire should I use with 11 ga al?
    Steve,
It looks like you will need the SGA-100 control unit in order to install a spool-gun. Does the price you quoted include that as well??

4043 0.30 wire is a good all purpose wire.

So I'm looking at $700 + bottle of argon to get me setup for aluminum???

I should just return the HH187 & buy the 210 MVP so I could get the $200 direct plug in gun.
Does this make sense to anyone else?

Is there a performance difference between the spoolrunner 100 and the previously mentioned spool gun?

Would anybody recommend getting the millermatic 211 with MVP and auto set over the Hobart 210?

There is a $60 difference in price spool gun included.

I would think the miller is naturally a better quality product since it seems to be the "industry standard". Would anyone disagree?

I kinda' like the way the hobarts look better, but that really doesn't matter that much does it???

Also, I can get any hobart stuff I need at tractor supply, another plus.

What path would you guys take? Hobart or Miller?

If you don't need the 110 capability, Northern Hardware is selling their remaining 210's, with the spool gun for something like $919 with free shipping.
            Blacksmith
            Stickmate LX AC/DC
            Big cheap (Chinese) Anvil
            Hand cranked coal forge
            Freon bottle propane forge
HH 210 and bottle of C25

                      Choice of Welders

Good choice - I had bought the H187, and about 6 months later wanted the spoolgun, so I ended up going out an buying the Miller 211, with Spoolgun.

Regarding someone's comment about the Miller being better???

Never had a problem with the Hobart 187 - my Miller died hard, after about 2 weeks. Fixed quickly by the LWS since they were a repair depot.

I just like to point that out to Miller versus Hobart bigots... I love both however.

Well, been welding aluminum alot... now i need a plasma cutter.

Thinking of the Hobart Airforce 500i - is this a quality plasma cutter? would anyone get something different than this?

I will mainly be cutting 1/8 AL/Steel sheet metal and occasionally 1/4-3/8 steel/AL.

                        Thanks -

Btw, I need to buy it tomorrow morning so I would appreciate quick feedback!

Also, do I need any kind of gas for this plasma cutter?

Since you are in a hurry go with the bigger unit 700i up to 1/2" so it should give clean cuts on 3/8"..

An additionally, a coalescing filter to remove condensate (from the air compressor/airline).... Unless you live in Arizonia or a very dry climate.
