  • Need biker/welder advice...

I have a ridged frame and am thinking about welding a couple of tabs for rear pegs, and one thats been been broke(for inner primary). It has a generator, small battery 12v.,and a joe hunt magneto. The motor is still in the frame but half tore apart.....Will I damage any of the electrics while still in the frame?

If you install you're ground clamp close to where the welding will be done(grind off any paint for a good grounding), with the battery disconnected or removed there is no reason for worry.

Would take about 1/2 hour to take the motor out. What is the problem?

It's a rigid frame by the way and no electronics to speak of. A mag isn't effected by welding. Sounds like a potato bike.....

If it was my bike I would NOT weld on tabs for foot pegs.
You can get chrome clamp on pegs. Many brands ,many styles.
If you need to re position the pegs for a perfect fit you can easily move them. Very important.
That way you can always take them off, and the frame is not altered.

BTW....Potato bike =Harley Davidson sound like potato, potato ,potato. Work on it.

Thanks for the feedback...now I get potato, and yeah that sounds right.I tried those clamp ons before..don't seem to hold full body weight...or maybe they have newer models out now...but I do have an aftermarket bracket that bolts behind the tranny made for this..but the kicker an the foot peg compete for the same space..so now maybe I can fabricate a peg that will bolt to the inside of the bracket...I agree much better than welding on the frame. Thanks!
