    It pains me to make this confession, but I wish I knew as much about computers as I do about welding. I have been trying to post a picture of some of my projects since the first day I logged onto this new forum. Anybody care to walk me through it??
    Respectfully,

    Mike, go to the bottom of the page, to the attach file, select your file, and then do the Submit Reply. I should so up as a file attachment in the posting.

    This is from the posting the Rocky D. did on one of the first posting for projects. Our you can do a search on my name: GWOL and follow the links towards the bottom.

    Hehe, funny isnt it. I have been in the Computer business for over 20 years and wish I knew as much about welding. But with all the great input I have been getting on here for the last 7 months Iam getting better!

    Good luck with the attachments, and let me know if you needs anymore help.
    Thanks
    Gary Wolboldt

      "the plumbers pipes"

      I drive a computer for a living also and wish my welds were better.

      The addition of being able to post/view pictures to this site is a really great. It adds a great deal.

      Dear Sitemaster; it would also be nice if multiple pictures could be posted all at once. The pictures of Rock's monster weldment are fantastic welding ... but might have been uploaded in a single zip file? ... and all viewed within one post.

      Computer speak: will this site support "mini-movies" like animated gif, etc.

      Bob

      ps. Thanks to Mike Sherman, I have learned quite a bit from his many posts to the old and new format forum.

        Just an addendum, Mike. You won't see the attachment in "preview" mode. That had me stumped for awhile

          posting picture

          Mike..........I don't see any pictures yet. You must be watching football or haven't been successful yet. Anyways you will see a box at the bottom that says browse. When you click on that it will access your computer where you can select the picture that you want to post. The picture of course is stored already in a file on your computer. You click on the picture file you want to post and then click on the submit box. Good luck. I am looking forward to seeing some of your posts. By the way I have a small tv next to the computer.

            While we are on the subject, I tried to insert an image into my message the other day and all that I got was a hyperlink to that particular image. I did it like any other bb, clicked on insert image, copied and pasted the appropriate hyperlink in the box and clicked OK. Everything looked good but when I submitted the post, all I got was the hyperlink. What am I missing? Any suggestions?

            Thanks in advance,
            Mike

              I believe you used the IMG button at the top of the edit window. Use the Browse at the bottom of the window. The Browse button will take you to your hard drive, so you can select a picture there.

                Rocky D,

                That's right. In other bb using the img button and supplying a link to a picture you have at a place like imagestation or webshots will put the image right in your message and eliminates the need to open an attachment. I cannot get it to work here though.

                  Mike,
                  In order to post a picture, it has to have a web URL, which means you need to be able to view it by typing its address into your web browser. This is no problem if your picture is already on your web site.

                  There are two ways depending on the settings of this web site. One is vB code as explained in the FAQ.
                  You enclose the address of your picture between {IMG}www.Your.address.here{/IMG}
                  When you type this into your message convert the curly braces into the square brackets that are the lower case version of the same key.

                  The more generic way of posting an image is to use html code. html is the foundation of everything you see on the web. If you want to see an example, right click on this page and select "view source". It is anightmare, right? To post use:

                  {IMG SRC="http//www.Your.address.here"}

                  Except when you type it, use the pointy backets above the period and comman keys instead. I can't type the actual characters as they won't display.

                  All this depends on whether vB code or html is enabled on this site, so here goes:

                  ****
                  <img src-="http://www.hobartwelders.com/images/homepage_header.gif">

                    Oh, well,

                    I guess what this shows is that niether vB or html code is supported for posting images on this site but at least vB code converts the image to a functional link.

                      You are correct in your description of how to link an image from a web site. However you can also place an attachment from your hard drive, which is how do I it. There has been alot of confusion on this, so will try to make it clearer here:
                      To add a picture:

                      1. Go to the "BROWSE" button below the edit pane where you are typing your message.
                      2. Click on the "BROWSE" button and you will have a dialog box pop up that says "FILE UPLOAD" and the "files of type" will have defaulted to "HTML FILES".
                      3. Click on that box and select " *.* " (star-dot-star) then you will be able to pick out your .JPG or other image file you have by going to the directory where you have them.
                      4. Click on the desired photo, and the path will pop into the box by the "BROWSE" button.
                      5. Do not click "PREVIEW REPLY", you won't see your file, and it will be gone from the box you just put it in. You'll have to do it all over again. Instead, click on "SUBMIT REPLY" and your photo and message will appear together in the next screen.

                      I don't know why I would ever want to place a link on my posts.

                      Anyway, I hope this will help someone.
