  • band saw

    hello

dose anybody have experience with the 7x12 inch band saw by rongfu. it is sold through MSC and I am sure by many others (on ebay too).

I am also looking on the used market (local machine dealers) for
a saw.. if I buy used I hope to pick up a Kalamazoo, doAll, or dake & johnson. (new these saws are much to expensive).

any thought or Ideas are welcome.

      yes
i have seen the jet 7X12 for sal through kbc.. i liked that one becase it had a slower speed than most of the other imports.

have you ever used it as a vertical saw ?

can it handle different blade with ? (ie 1/2 or 1/4)

Where are you at in the "Northeast"? I just picked up a small Kalamazoo at a used tool wholesaler and love it. The place was called Cook Machinery in Sicklerville, NJ. They had some bigger ones too.

For what it is worth...I converted my old wooden craftsman 12in. to a steel cutter. Geared it down considerably and works great. Had the pulleys laying around and bought a custom blade for $12

There a number of dealers in my area I just need to comb through them. one not to far has an old Johnson for 1500.00 but he is real proud of a doAll for 2500.00 I think. he says it is 1995 and is in super shape.. it is a 9X16. one thing is for sure even junk is not cheap with this stuff. thanks for the info on the other place. The good thing about my search is that time is on my side

I have one I picked up from J&L. It has worked fine with no fiddling from day 1. No sand in gearbox either as others have reported. There are several different varieties out there. This one has the hydraulic downfeed tie into the cast iron bed, not the stand. I got mine for $525. I've known of others to take advantage of J&L's everything 15% off sales to pick them up even cheaper.

If you want even cheaper, you will have to start attending auctions. I've seen large vertical metal cutting band saws in just fine working order go for $100. Fully automatic horizontal unit go for what I paid for my import.
