  • Tilt trailer Ideas

Started with fixed-vee tongue. Wanted to be able to match ramp angle with trailer for loading and unloading. Also to be able to tilt even futher for "shoveling-off" material.

Bolted bottle jack to steel plate. Drilled and tapped into bottom of jack. Note: outer parts of hinge on back side of jack. They are welded to the steel plate. The jack needs to be able to tilt back when the trailer raises.

Bracket is attached to front of trailer. Cap pivots and slips over top of jack ram. Center part of hinge is welded to the tongue.

Jack is mounted on center of tongue. Tongue pivots just ahead of trailer axle. Jack tilts back as trailer raises.

Tongue was lengthened and raised. Note adjustable chains just ahead of the jack. Chain hooks swivel on plate welded on top of vee. Just put the chains into the hooks where desired. This limits how far the trailer tilts.

Nice work Dave. The tilt/dump feature is great. I do have a question though...why such a long tongue? I am sure there must be a reason. It looks like you added about 3 feet to it.

hey Dave, where did you get the knurled knob on the jack in this picture ? I have a jack that I've been looking to put one on for ease of use ...

                            thanks.

                              knurled knob

When I first used the word knurled, my wife thought I made it up.
