I had a piece of 1 1/4" water pipe instantly develop a 3"-4'' long crack at the seam when I struck an arc on it. We use it for 1 5/8" OD chain link gate frames. Yes, it even had a 300 psi working pressure number printed on the side of it. I just chopped off a few inches and used the pipe for a smaller gate.
You are correct in that 1/8" thickness has a lot of variation to it. I see great variation on pipe, too.

The trailer came from Florida, and there was no numbers or any kind of ID on it. It it over 20', longer than you can buy in California. I agree on the tongue, but that's pretty typical for here. Have you seen what's coming out of China? when you specify 1/8" material. you get something less than that, and I have seen channel with de-lams, and cold shuts so that when you strike an arc on it , it splits into toothpicks.

Both axles were trashed, he had to buy one from a gas station in the desert, which they installed 90° off.

I really like the way that you did the stop light. Nice looking and sturdy.

    Another trailer fix

This 24' trailer came to me like this. It had ben side-swiped by a big rig on the highway near 29 Palms, CA in the middle of nowhere. the driver was in the vehicle waiting for a tow, for I forget what....fortunately he was in the passenger seat. He was pulling it with a Ford Expedition, which was also swiped. No injuries! To people, that is
Working...
