  • Side Posts Welded to New Trailer

I am currently working on an addition to the back of my garage.
My two car garage is full of construction material and stuff I moved away from the walls that I had to work on in the other rooms.
This means that I have can’t get my customer Sam's landscape trailer in the garage to work on it.
Under these conditions I would normally work on it outside in the driveway.
Unfortunately the past week has been snowing every day with 30 MPH gusts.
I do have a 10’ x 10’ free standing tent with sides that I can position over the trailer to cut out some wind, but there are limits to how much wind it can tolerate.
I bailed out and did the welding in a friend’s shop.

I cut out the cross braces from the old trailer to use as posts for the sides of the new trailer.
The MIG machine that my friend had in his shop was an old giant Miller transformer machine.
The two dials just went from one to ten, so it was more difficult to set the proper voltage and WFS.
I had Sam watch the volt and amp meters on the machine while I was welding to set up the machine.
I ran some test welds because all machines are different.
I used a clamp block and diagonal bracing to hold the posts in position.

Sam also helped my with the weld prep.
I welded the 3/16" posts to the top of the upper angle iron rail of the new trailer, which was also 3/16".
