  • Excalibur 7018 H4R Rod

Not being an experienced welder or for that matter not even a beginner I was told that the 7018 rod was a good fool proof type rod and was given some 7018 H4R rods to try. I looked them up and the info said that they would run on AC or DC+, which setting have you experienced welders found to be best when using this rod, AC of +DC? Thanks

Wow! A fellow Arkansas! Excalibur runs best on DC positive. 3/32 size somewhere between 70 to 110 amps, 1/8 between 90 to 160. It is a good rod thats easy to run.

Thanks Gary, I appreciate that. I have the 1/8" rods. I will set it on +DC and give it a whirl.

Do a search on my name and take a look at all that has been said in the past about storage and using low hydrogen electrodes. These are good rods when stored and used properly. Otherwise they are not worth anything but practice welding if you do not store them in an oven.

          That is very important!

Storage is very important and where you buy too.
          Very good point mike!
