  • Good Woman

Went up to the brothers house for turkey dinner, and his wife bought him a little Lincoln 240 volt mig machine for Xmas.

He has a little shop in his garage at home and wants to start work on his 70 Mach One, floorpans rockers and quarters etc.

He welded a little bit in school some twenty years ago and is going to take a couse in welding at a local high school.

I was saying to him some of the stuff that he is going to need like, building a small welding table, better helmet, magnetic squares, lots of vise grips, extension cord for the welder, ear plugs and beanie caps.

Then of course, cut off saws, grinders, welding jacket and gloves. Torches etc.

I found it interesting as he is just starting out and I take it for granted all the things that I have now and the knowledge that has accrued over the years. It made me step back a little bit, and see the whole thing through a newbies eyes.

I also told him to get setup with a proper welding supllier, not a Home Depot kind of place for his supplies etc, as the guys that sell the stuff everyday will help with the questions and what to buy for particular welding repairs.

I did notice one thing though, last year he got a snow shovel, and it still looks new?????

    Happy Holidays

Did he get a new wife during the year, or just educate the old one?

I bought my wife a brand new plastic snow shovel for Christmas 2 years back. The store even generously decorated it with a bow and tinsel wrapped along the handle.
I got her the plastic one cause she is gettin older, and I figured the light weight shovel might help her out. I like being considerate like that.
Dang thing sat in the living room for the first winter, but she used it the year after that. This year she has taken to playin with her little Toro snow blower a lot more. Of course, she's also taken to callin me on her **** cell phone and informing me to get the loader out and plow the driveway.
This year I bought her new snow tires for her car since she NEVER looks at a tire on anything till it goes "thumpidy thumpidy" and steers hard.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all you married guys, for reminding me daily, why I stayed single after getting divorced.

My wife told me that when we get older she was going to take over shoveling the drive as she had heard that a lot of old guys died of heart attacks doing that. Told her she was kidding herself, by that time she'll be telling me to get out and shovel the drive every time we get a dusting.

Y'all speak for yourselves. My wife is a journeyman electrician and certified weldor. We get along GREAT! My problem when I "need" a new tool is not convincing her to spend the money, but having a discussion as to who gets to pick out the NEXT tool!

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but the wife has always taken care of me in the snow removal dept. Years ago when I was digging out the driveway...could only see the top of a VW's shiny little head about as big around as a large dinner platter...she informed me it was time for me to get a snowblower. She came back from a visit over to her mother's with a large one a week later. After years of using that blower, and even throwing an 11 hp motor on it, she told me I was getting too old to do the snowblowing...takes about two hours to do the driveway. She informed me that it was now time to get an ATV with a snowblade. So now I've got a shiny new Yamaha Grizzley with balde sitting waiting for the first flakes of snow and the job is down to a quick 15 minutes. Same woman thinks I "deserve" tools too! You gotta love a wife like that. Of course before I married her I just put the Landcruiser in low range and said the heck with snow removal.

That reminds me of the lyrics to an old Rod Stewart song. "Some guys have all the luck. Some guys get all the pain. Some guys get all the breaks. Some guys do nothing but complain."

                    Well guy's,

I guess all I can say is my wife is more than worth her weight in gold. Every time I get tool fever she lets me get the tool after explaining legitimate reasons for it. She gave me the go ahead to get an ironworker this coming spring providing that I sell my Case skid loader. Since I have lost interest in spreading dirt and gravel, I won't mind selling it but will miss having it for moving heavy stuff around. For Christmas she gave me a HF 4x6 bandsaw. I put the thing together in the basement, and when I tested it I cut a 1/8" slice of copper from a 2" solid square bar. It cut through it pretty good leaving a nearly machined looking cut. Well I better get the hoover out to suck up the copper dust.

Have a happy and safe holiday.

Pat you gotta point out to her you need the skid loader for handling large fabrications and start fabricating the forks and stinger. After all, she'd have to run that Hoover herself if you hurt your back.
You can also explain how you're selling the dirt bucket so you'll have funds to fab the snow pusher. You're on your own how you get the hydraulic snow blower.

Gee I don't have to explain, I just check the ol piggy bank and if there is cash to support the need off I go!

                            Pat-don't do it!

Again I would agree with Franz - while I would love to have an ironworker to sacrifice the skid loader to get it would be a tough one. We use ours daily - in the shop as much as any where.
