Hammer Tree

This is something I made for my nephew with the welding shop. They don't mind Uncle Tom hanging around and asking questions, so I wanted to build them something that they could use. Not space was an issue there and I didn't want to build something that was just in the way. So one day my nephew was working and could not find a certain hammer. Oh yeah, I jumped right on that and this is what I did. He uses it, and can tell at a glance if his hammers are there ..along with a helmet and I have a place for a grinder.
Now don't get me wrong but all the guys there have some real talent, and could make copies of this tree in less the half the time I could, but they asked me to make each of them one.
They'll supply the iron, I'll supply the gift of my skill.
Wow this is great isn't it. Take a pile of junk really and make someone happy.

Great idea Slag. Is that a disk plow you used for the base?

Slag, does that thing come with an optional seek/retreive robotic hangup arm? If it does, I'd be real interested.

It's off an old John Deere Disc harrow that was ran over and the frame was all bent up. I took it apart and used all the iron from it, except the bearings. I have about 15 of those disc and I have used them for the bases of tables,stands, and that hammer tree and the others I'll have to make. I also used for the pole a piece of tubing that was bent a little and thrown away it just happened to be about 4 feet tall. The "arms" are 1/2 inch rod that came out of a bent treasel that I cut the rod out of. The Hammer saddles are cut from an old 2 1/2 pipe I found somewhere I don't remember now, and I cut it in "strips" about 5/8 inch thick. I could just weld other saddles to the ones on the "arms" as need for more hammers. I think sometime, even up to 3 saddles per arm would look pretty cool. Something like the olympic rings , more or less

I need a little help here with the hammer tree

The hammer tree is great!!

However!!

I guess that I am the dummy at the moment.

I can understand how the rings hold the hammers and the hook for the helmet.

BUT, I am having a little problem with figuring out how the grinder is hung on the tree. It looks like a straight arm stuck out there with nut welded out on the end.

I think and know that I am missing something there.

Enlighten me as to what I am not seeing or failing to understand.

Here is parts list of straight arm sticking out with nut on the end.

1) Straight 1/2" rod 10 inches long

2) 1/2" nut, thread is 13 pitch

3) purpose? Hold 7 1/2 grinder, The model shown is a 4 1/2
grinder with flap disc. No 7 1/2 grinders where available
during the shooting. No grinders where hurt during the filming.

I don't know if it is just my computer, but those pictures only show on my screen as about 1"x"1. I can't see the detail. Every other pics I open are bid. I would really like to see that tree???

Depending on the browser you're using, you can click on the picture in its small state and a square grey button with a blue graphic and arrows at the four corners may appear. Click on it and the picture will increase in size.
