  • Question for ChadRat - candleholders...

    Hey fella:

I was just looking at the candleholders on your web-site (nice work!). How did you make the concave dish that the candle sits on? Did you just buy those parts? Or did you cut them out of thick sheetmetal and use a press to bend them into a concave shape? Educate me if you're willing!

    Thx,
    Dave

    Dave,
I buy those dishes at Metal Craft I prefer their thick gauge dishes. I am slowly gettin all the stuff I need to make my own. I would like to make some stainless steel ones. I will use metal shaping skills instead of pressing or stamping.

      Hey man:

Thanks for the reply. So, what do you mean by "metal shaping skills"? Short of pressing a concave into a metal disk, I can't think of how else to make it concave. What do you have in mind? (If you don't mind sharing!)

      Thx!

Using a metal spinning lathe, would be one way. Something similar to this:

        Millermatic 200 w/ SKP-35 Spot Pulse Weld Panel, Tweco MIG-GUN #2, running ER70S-6 .035 wire on CO2, Spoolmatic 1 Spool Gun; Miller Thunderbolt 225 A/C stick machine

          Dave,
I would use shrinking and stretching to make it concave. Basically, you would just need to shrink the edges. You could stretch out the middle if needed. I would do this for dishes I couldn't buy. That reminds me that I need to start making some more candle holders. I think they will be great Christmas presents for some of my relatives.
