  • panel ****ter?

    Hello everyone,
Got my plasma cutter, love it, was wondering if anyone has ever built a panel cutter, like they have in lumber yards except geared towards a torch or plasma instead of a circular saw? would be a good project I'm thinking if I can find a supply for tracks.

we use a radiograph all the time, it's basically a little cart (12"x10") that has a torch mounted on it, and travels along a track we use it for 3/16 to 5" plate.
it'll also cut circles if needed.

to cut circles, ours has a center that extends out from one side, with a point that you can screw down to lift the inner wheel off the surface. you then swing the rear wheel to match the radius of your track ( we have a couple sections of round track for circle cutting).

you simply make a center punch mark ( good deep one) where you want the center of the circle to be.

ours is old. my grandfather bought it in 1976 from a retired dock worker( wonder where he got it. lol) when he and my father opened out machine shop.... it's one of the best tools we've got

Since someone mentioned a CNC table, does anyone here have either a PlasmaCAM (www.plasmacam.com ), a PracticalCNC (www.practicalcnc.com ), or a self-assembled TorchMate (www.torchmate.com )? If so what do you think of whichever? These look really interesting! (Er...uh...I suppose I need to buy that plasma cutter first though, eh?)

                    Thx,
