what to paint a fence with

after you weld a fence section (6 feet or so), is it sandblasted and painted and then hung on the posts or what's the way to go?

I just built a 40' fence. I primed it before setting i in concrete and then painted it. I used Rustoleum primer and gloss paint. I didn't sand blast because it was still slightly oily; just cleaned w/mineral spirits before priming.

I like the industrial coatings made by Shrwin Williams and others. They tend to last.
