i have always used dc reverse for carbon ark. my friend says he uses ac. any one have an opinion. thanks ken w

According to the New Lessons In Arc Welding from the Lincoln Foundation:

With two electrodes, AC is most common. With DC, the positive pole should be one size larger than the negative to reduce the burn-off tendency.

With a single electrode, the polarity must be electrode negative.
