I'm getting ready to cut open a 55gal kerosene drum for my BBQ project. The drum is been empty for a while and I rinsed it off with water several times, but it still smile some kerosene inside. Is it safe to cut it with oxy-acetylen torch or should I get rid of the smile first.

We always fill the barrel COMPLETELY with water. first we mark where the cut will be and then make sure water is coming out of the bung hole. when the torch cuts thru into the water, it will start pouring out, but the torch will keep cutting. Haven't had a problem yet....................Well, except for that one time !!!!!KenCo " Uccahay "

Mistakes
Funny thing.....whenever I or one of my friends mess up during our projects, I always say, " What would a welding instructor in a welding class have charged us to learn not to make that mistake ?" It kinda softens the " I'm so stupid feelin "KenCo " Uccahay "

kerosene drum
artstang: Cut a few apart before. If I got A little nervous for lack of water fill & flush I took a couple of shop vac hoses, taped together and taped them to the tailpipe of my tractor or pick-up and made in essence a purge of exhaust gas going inside the drum. Don't know if it was overkill but made me feel better & safer. Stu Bass
