  • Losing my mind...want to mod a Radio Flyer Tricycle

Maybe I've watched to many episodes of American Chopper...but as I was eyeing my kids Radio Flyer Tricycle today, I started thinking how it might benefit from a frame stretch, some new fenders, maybe some new handle bars...

    Any thoughts?

Had the same idea for my daughter, she's only 5 months but I figure if I start now it will be done by the time she can ride it. I've ready got her a tricycle even

I was thinking some fat fenders, flames etc... I like the idea of streaching the frame. Maybe extend the forks give a little rake to it.

        I like this one too:

I attached a pic of the tricycle I picked up for my kid the other day. Think it was $25 at walmart. Might have to grab another, so he isn't without wheels for extended periods (we've all been there).

That vacuum cleaner trike isn't too bad...I want to do something more, traditional, but classy and cool. Motor-cycle like. The Rake is a great idea too. muhahaha. This just keeps getting better. But I think the classic Radio Flyer might be better suited for screwing with the rake because I think it has bearings in the neck, whereas the one I have now doesn't.

          oh yeah...custom paint too.

              Rock,
Depending on what project he's working on I've seen both Lincoln and ESAB. The ESABs were from Richard Petty's garage.

Well I think Rock will be happy to know...I was just down at the shop (picking up sheetmetal for this project) and I seen nothing but Miller Welders in the shop...beautiful machines, thousands of dollars...many of them...more than I could count. I seen tubing benders, and huge industrial hydralic metal brakes, I seen flashes of lights...and now my eyes hurt because I was trying to see what the guy was welding (j/k)...although I sometimes get "moth syndrome" when I see people welding.

Oh, my buddy brought up the idea of upgrading this thing to use a weed-wacker motor someday...any ideas on a transmission for this?

I say when they are ready for gas power build them one of these:

The tricycle I picked up came from the Goodwill and cost $5. Pretty easy to come by at thrift stores. I might go back to look for other "donor" bikes.

Jesse James Is Packing Yellow Heat!

                      Dear Rock,

I watched Monster Garage last night and Jesse James had on a black ESAB hat during the show!

I don't know about West Coast Choppers but sorry Yellow is the color of choice at Monster Garage.

This comes from ESAB's Press Release

"ESAB provided the show with a variety of equipment and filler metals, including a MigMaster 250Plus, MultiMaster® 260 multi-process welders – with .035 Mig 6 wire on 44 lb. spools, Heliarc® 161 and Heliarc® 352 TIG/Stick machines – with All-State 275 electrodes in cut lengths, PowerCutTM-650 and PowerCutTM-1500 plasma cutters, plus an OXWELD® Trade Master outfit. And Jesse James likes it. “Our projects require a combination of down-in-the-trenches hard work and some off-the-wall ingenuity, and ESAB products deliver the results we’re looking for,” says James."

I'll tell ya Rock with 500 TV channels there is a market for a "New Yankee Workshop" style welding show. It's amazing the amount of guys I talk to that watch Monster Garage and American Chopper. None of them are car nuts or own a motorcycle but when I ask them why they watch them they all say, "yea but they make something."

Saddly I don't get the "Speed Channel" to watch some of the other shows but "This Ol Weldor" is coming someday to TV, might be red, purple, yellow or blue but it is coming.
