Has anyone built their own? I am considering building one using the plans from www.tptools.com and using their hardware kit. Any opinions?????

yup.....
doesn't compare to theirs, but then it was almost free.
I found that long green nitrile chemical gloves work surprisingly well. I think the rubber is to soft to be abraded by the bead or silica sand I use.
I built mine from a few 2x4's and some 3/8 plywood in a couple hours.
I put a shop vac filter inside it against one wall, over a hole which has a big 110v muffin fan on the outside. keeps the media from finding it's way out of all the edges.
I put 2 light inside the the box, with glare shields so they don't shine up.
my gloves arent built in either. I have 2 arm holes, and a piece of apolstry vynil covering then with 2 slits. I just stick my hands through the slits. the negative pressure keeps the dust from comming out.
It's all amazing crude yet perfectly finctional. -- which is my point. it can be.T/A 185

I built one from a 55 gal drum with the removable lid. laid the drum horizontal with 2x4 legs. Put a piece of expanded mesh inside for a platform.
cut the side viewing port and used a piece of 1/16 lexan pop riveted on for window. Just cut 2 holes for my arms. It worked OK for a couple of years til I could afford a good one. A drum is $10 locally and it's plenty big enough.

Laundry driers make good blasting cabinets, and it's fairly easy to form the bottom into a recovery hopper.
The big trick to any blast cabinet is to line it with sheet rubber, so the bouncing media looses all energy on impact. It tremendously increases the lifespan of the box.
Right now I have a lab cabinet I'm going to turn into a small blast cabinet, since it already has most of the fabrication done, and windows installed.
Fiberglass window screne 1/2" in from the window extends the life of the glass a lot.
For dust removal, Kirby vacuum cleaners are hard to beat, especially if some generous housewife puts one out to the curb on trash day. Repair parts for Kirby are easily available, and fairly cheap.

Home-made blast cabinet
Just did a short feature on a bead blasting cabinet made by a John Wilkens out in Oregon. Story hasn't been published yet. (Slated for our July issue, I think) He wanted something inexpensive that would fit into limited space. The editor of FARM SHOW ran across it at www.angelfire.com/mt/deeregp. (The site belongs to Frank Gremaux. Wait for the entire page to load and then click on John's Bead Blaster in the 'My Favorite Links' section at the bottom to bring up the photos and info.) If you want to get in touch with Wilkens, let me know.

I built my own cabinet using scrounged parts and a pressure blaster but after using a recovery type I decided to do it right. I bought the TP tools hardware and plans to build your own and simply enlarged the dimensions so I could get the size cabinet I wanted. The gun, with the foot control, the gloves, rings, lense, lense protectors, light kit and door latch were all top quality parts and my cabinet now compares to one they sell for around $1200.00 The only difference is theirs is metal and mine is wood with a plastic liner. Being able to blast without having to stop and refill a pressure type blaster is great! I would highly recommend Tip Tools kit and plans. I made mine big enough to put a car fender inside or a full size truck wheel with the tire still mounted .

I just got the plans yesterday. I will start the top cabinet this weekend. It will be 48" wide x 28" deep. I am debating on what to line the back wall with.
