  • Metal Cutting Saw Blades?

I was looking for a metal cutting circular saw blade...MK Morse metal devil...and came across the porter cable site which has left cutting and right cutting saw blades, which, I assume, one goes on a standard saw and the other a worm drive saw. But which is which?? Any body know?

Depends on the hemisphere you're in... If you cross the equator, they are interhangable since the blades are 180* out.

Sorry, can't offer any REAL information, but that struck me as amusing...

      Rocky,

My understandig of it is that the left would go on the worm drive. The only real difference though is which side of the blade the data is printed on. They are interchangable, as long as you don't want to read it.

The porter cable was just about $45. I'm having a tough time finding them....Home Depot doesn't have 'em Lowes has one, but a brand I never heard of. I have a Makita worm drive that I think is a good candidate. It's easier to find a surf board around here, than specialty tools! I'm looking for a MK Morse Metal Devil blade, actually...since I can't find a store here that carries them, I'll have to rely on the internet.

Funny you should mentoin it. I had never heard of a metal cutting saw blade until today. I was at the tool store and saw a new dewalt 14" chop saw that uses a carbide tipped blade. It claims to cut 4 times faster than abrasive plus leave a machined smooth finish. Has anyone tried one?

Yeah Jason, they do all of that...they're really cool! and they don't heat up the metal and leave very little burr. I'm trying to find a blade for home use...I have one at work...they are a real work saver.

I don't think so, the Dewalt multi-cutter saw only does 1300 rpm while the Dewalt abrasive chop saw does 3800 rpm. I think you'd burn the $100 multi-cutter blade right up

Bluesman has one of the DeWalt metal saws, I think he has chunked some teeth on his blades. I'll let him post his opinion.

I passed up a Makita metal saw this week, brand new for $189.

Actually, it was marked the same as a regular Makita chopsaw. Being my honest self, I told the store manger about the mistake and he quickly changed the price.

Rocky D......Porter Cable makes a 7-1/4" saw that you can get with either the blade on the left or the blade on the right. They are identical except for the position of the blade. Maybe that has something to do with a blade being a left or right one. Thats the best I can do. If you find out be sure to post the info.

I saw that Porter Cable saw...(redundant) ...that would be cheaper than the Evolution....maybe that's an indication that more mfgrs are going to come out with one.

I haven't used mine a LOT, but it's an Oldham that I got at Home Depot. I've used it on 16GA and some 11GA (I think) expanded, and a short pass of 1/8" and it shows now sign of slowing down.
