  • metal art...........

Hey guys......Ive seen over the years lots of things made from scrap that ends up as art.....now some of this has been brilliant....giant spiders, from wire.........nice big candlarbra, from a rear leaf spring........and some has been crap.....my point is there seems to be money being made here......I like the ideas Ive seen and I even have ideas of my own. Does anyone have any input about making this art?...........I like the idea of using auto parts etc..........or even some links to web addresses for ideas? Sometimes I catch myself looking at something and seeing a ressemblense, a curve, stance, style that evokes certain feelings.....am I artistic or suffering from some type of rare antartic chill.............cheers, Pete........in OZ............my girlfriend paints on canvas and does very well, so I suppose seeing people pay good money for some metal art that takes little to make, yet also captures a certain feeling..........just an idea...........I have also seen a grille on a hotrod that was made from wire to look like a giant cobweb.......very coool indeed..................

Yard art is in the eye of the beholder. Several of us are members of another group in Yahoo, called ornamental ironworkers. You can see some of their work at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OrnamentIron/

    Good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks Rock, I appreciate most art....but some of that abstract stuff........well........My girlfriend recently entered an art competition, that was full of many pieces of fine art.......but what won the comp was a canvas painted black with a piece of hessian hanging over it , that had a hole cut into the hessian....................................thats it........riveting stuff!! now that judge must have eaten some strange mushrooms or something !! As for the doors, there all set up...I have a couple of small repairs to do to the inside skin{frame} then Ill tackle the outside skin.....I also have to fit doors to shell and line up gaps, tack, remove etc........not gonna make that mistake again either! I have some anxiety about doind the job but Ill give it a go soon.......I have a busy week with my kids and would rather do it when no one NEEDS me....if you know what I mean.................I used to think about my projects when I had the kids and think of the kids whilst doing my projects!! I had to sort that one out in my head......Now when Im with the kids I focus on them and when I have space I get stuck into my projects..............Im better focused that way and feel less guilty about either.....I also have to sort out my current car that we use as regular transport...the bloody thing has a cracked head!!!! Have to decide if its worth fixin..anyway thanks, Ill post soon and let you know....cheers, Pete

Here are some links to some "art" web sites. Most are Blacksmith stuff but the last two are pretty close to what you are asking about. Enjoy.

Located in Memphis, Tennessee, the Metal Museum welcomes all to experience the beauty of fine metal artwork through rotating exhibitions, educational programming, and a fully functioning metals studio.

                  Bert,
It sounds like you have what it takes. You see something that you can use in a different way to make something cool. There was a big arts festival here a few weeks ago. They had some junkyard sculptures there. They were fun to look at but nothing that I wanted in my yard. All I can say is be as creative as you can. Let your imagination run wild. Most important thing is to have fun! Last thing, Keep It Simple Stupid! Sometimes too much stuff is overkill but they again sometimes it is not. Use your artistic license and make the things you see.
