  • Boys Meet BRUTUS

Brutus followed me home about 2 years ago, the Truck is a Chevy C-30 1983 witha Centry Hydr 4 ton hoist and boom.

The entire boom, hoist and outrigger can be operated from inside of the cab.

The machine that is on it now is one of our back up units Ranger 250.

We are planning a complete overhaul of this truck and would like some info from you guys as to the planning.

We use this machine for boiler and large pump removals and in the winter months it is used for a repair rig during snow storms for snow plows.

The truck sports a rebuilt 454 - 4bbl with 12,000 mile on it.

The plate was install before we got it, its main use is a work bench.

    Thanks
    Bernie

Nice. I am building a new cab for my 75 C-10. I would do what I am planning: Strip the Cab, replace the rockers and the floorpans. Then have it Line-X'd inside and out.

Nothing wrong with the cab, what I want to do is rebuild the bed into a better welding rig.

I plan on extending the boom for a better reach, and replace what is going to be a adjustable work table.

The gas tanks that are mounted inside the body have to be replaced, as both have leaks, in doing so I plan on replacein only one, this will allow the machine to set on the passenger side of the rig.

The cab and frame are in great shap, the interior has a full Tuc & Roll to it, althought in rough shape tis workable.

Truck drive fine and everything works, we have used it quite a few times, however it is hard to operate as a repair rig the way it is now.

            Thanks
            Bernie

banzai, I am curious about the Line-x product you mentioned. Is it a polyurea spray?

Yep, basically Polyurethane bed liner. I am doing inside the cab, under the cab, the firewall and the area in front of the bed.

I think Polyurea has one more nitrogen molecule in it's atomic makeup than polyurethane. Anyway, the reason I asked was I have just purchased a new polyurea spray unit and chemicals. I am very interested in the many different uses that people have found for it.

The most interesting one I have heard of is spraying shop floors and walls with it

Coated shop floors are hard to get used to - drop some hardware or a small tool and you can't hear where it went. Drives you nuts at first, nice to stand on though.

                        LINE-X is a thick polyurethane/polyurea elastomer.
LINE-X provides protective solutions for bedliners, commercial, residential & military jobs.

It was used as Bomb Blast Protective coating at the Pentagon.

If used to coat shop floor is it fire retardant? I have seen how hot polyurethane foam burns when it melted aluminum locker foam lifejackets were stored in.

I have Line X in my truck bed. Momma said I had to have it when I got my new truck. I really scratched up my old bed. It seems to me that at the Line X place, anything that sits around there long enough gets coated. They even coated their coffee table.

The material I have right now is flammable. I will be making an inquiry into whether or not it can be made fire resistant. I know there are many different formulas and variations on this stuff. I will follow up on this.
