Mig Gun Holder

What do you use to hold your MIG Gun between welding passes?

Is it PVC, Wood, Metal?

Attached to the welding cart? or clamp on a bench?

Does it hold the Gun like a holster, nozzle first? or perhaps like a fork, the handle sits on top?

I know these are the simplest of questions, but while using my HH175, I find that I waste too much time trying to put the gun down where it won't fall, and possibly get damaged. As much as I've seen on this board over the last year, I'm sure there are some real creative answers to this simplest of questions.

And while I'm at it, let me say that in my 12 years of being online, this is by far, the best supportive group forum of Professionals, that I've ever seen. Thanks to all who contribute!

Don, we use 2" x 2" x 11 ga square tube about 3" long welded to the work benches. At least two per side.

I have one that tacks to the table with just one tack, so I can break it off and move easily. I made it out of scrap angle and a piece of 1" pipe.
One piece of 3/16" x 1 1/4"angle x 2"long one leg down one leg towards the table. to that, welded perpendicular, a 4" lentgh of 3/4" x 3/4" angle and on the end of that a ring 1" long of 1" pipe angled so that the gun when in place is sticking out hand level (handle even with the table top). I will get a picture and post it.

If I understand most of you correctly, then you "holster" the gun by sticking the tip in the pipe or whatever. And I guess if it's the right size, you don't worry about bending the wire sticking out of the tip.

I wanted to make some kind of holder that was a clamp-on to my workbench or whatever I was working on. And maybe a holder made out of PVC that held the gun up like a dentist drill. I want it to be removable, so when I'm not using my welder it's not in the way.

I am not sure I would use PVC pipe. Remember your nozzle will be hot after welding and the pvc pipe will melt to the gun and make a mess. I would try as Rock and Rocky said and make it out of tubing or pipe. The welder has a cold contactor in it so the gun and wire will not be hot till the trigger is pulled. So a metal tube would be in the ball park.

But the the PVC idea was to just hold the handle, and not be near the nozzle. Course, even mistakes happen, and the hot nozzle touching the PVC would not be good.
