  • .22 Rifle Target

A friend of mine asked me to come up with a design for a rifle target. He is a scout-master and the kids in his group are getting bored with punching holes in paper targets. He wanted something lightweight, reactive, and easily stored. Here is what I came up with. It has 2.75" targets on the bottom and 1.75" on the top. They spin about a dozen times around when hit at 25 yards. Just thought I would share, in case anyone wants to make one.

I've seen those and used them several times. They sure are nice. A good shot can really keep 'em spinning.

One thing to be aware of is that the led may have a tendency to splatter whereas copper jacketed rounds bounce.

In using them as substitutes for bowling-pin shooting (9mm and up at a range of 20 ft.), we angled them back slightly to resolve "bounce-back" issues.

        Nice work!

          Scott,

The legs are 2" long pieces of 1/2" pipe with a set screw (red handle) there are washers tacked just above and below the pipe. You just loosen the set screw, and turn them so it all lays flat.

The pic is of Thor. He is a two year old boxer

          Bluesman,

It is strictly for 22 rifle, and he know that. I figure at 25 yards with a safe backstop there should be no ricochet danger.

seen a .22 target like that one but when you hit the hanging target it would spin up and come to rest on a bar ....after you shot all the hanging ones and they where on the bar you shot the top target witch moved the bar and reset the hanging ones

What ever happened to road signs?
For more ideas on various metallic targets, check IPSC, IDPA, IMSHA (Sp), NRA, webpages. I've used 1/2" plate for poppers, work great, and even FMJ (Handgun) bullets spatter reliably when they strike the targets. Be careful when handling the targets, lead can transfer to your fingers and if you smoke or eat before washing, you can inhale or consume significant amounts of lead.

What a coincidence, my wife told me that just the other day... Although I think she was imagining them with shackles... around my neck, wrists, and ankles...

This is also good policy when dealing with bad-guys like Hannibal Lechter...
