Here are a few pictures of a the atv log skidding arch I made this weekend. The frame and arch are made out of 2" sq x .25 tubing. The slider bar is 1-1/4 x .25 round tubing. I used an old door for a layout table, fixture and welding table. I knew I was saving that door for a good reason.
My costs for the project were quite modest.
135# of steel @ $0.35 per # = $47.25
1 pair of 2000# spindles and hubs = $ 36.00
1 1-7/8 " coupler = $ 11.00
1 clevis and grab hook= $ 11.87
2# .035 flux-core wire $ 10.75
2 wheels and tires= free 0
1 choker chain= free 0
TOTAL $116.87
I have seen a similar skidding arch advertised for $888 so I guess I just paid for my HH 175 ($540) and my Optrel auto helmet($150) with just this one project. I even have change left over. Being retired my time doesn't count. Sure beats playing bingo or sitting in a casino.
