  • though I have owned a bunch of welders over the last 30-some years I hardly ever used them myself. I always had guys around me that were very good welders and because I was riding inside what was welded, I left that to them. I'm still here so that part of the plan worked well. More recently I am learning to weld. I always wanted to and did some along the way but now I am actually practicing like I mean it.
I have more or less retired from regular work as a writer/photographer and am doing websites on woodworking and metalworking. Both started out as part time deals and both have gone full time and more round-the-clock work than I have done in ages. As long as I can keep up with tit I guess it keeps me feeling young!

    • ...No story here. The fabrication is an offshot of the motorcycle business.

      • I was an over the road truck driver, left that got tired of living in a truck all the time, got a job in a RV shop and became an RV tech for seven years. Wasn't making enough money so I went back to driving, I started to learn mig in the rv shop and got hooked on welding so I went to school and took a course at night at the local vo-tec, also took hvac/r, worked out well for the RV business. I don't go over the road anymore, now I drive a yard dog a few miles from home. Weld as a hobby, it comes in handy maintaining my camper, boat, truck and trailer (building)

Quite a dinasaur, but welds great!
We have a Airco Dipstick 160 had it repaired due to not feeding wire. Got it to working condition. Loaded in truck took my son's house welded up something brought it home now the wire feed will not work. I connected the motor to a battery and the motor spins fine. But when it is wired up in the machine the motor will not spin or move the wire. It has to be something simple but I do not know what it could be. I purchased a new time delay fuse but that did not fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

          • I read a few names for couple minutes on this thread. I know most of the eldtimers a bit but HankJ was my bud. He was old school electrician and knew where the rubber hit the road with all that.
