There was some talk a few weeks ago about ring rollers. I used ideas from several different styles, and came up with my solution. I have attached a few pics of what I came up with. I was thinking about using hydraulics for the tension adjustment, but the cost kept that idea at bay. Instead, I used a one inch bolt. I am taking it to the shop tommorow to have the threads lengthened on the bolt, so I can get a smaller circle. So far, I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Arbo, nice heavy duty roller. 1" x 1/8" isn't that a lil bit of overkill? I have been toying with the idea of making a foot power roller. Take a bike and remove the back wheel, hook the chain up to the roller. With my small HF roller, I can get quite a work out at times. I am thinking the bike roller might be a lil bit easier. Good looking helper and very talented.
Sberry, I use rings for all kinds of projects. Wine racks, wheels, plant stands, round tables and on, on.Art is dangerous!

That is the cutest apprentice I have ever seen! I hope to get my little one out there in a few years-she is only 4.5 months. She already told me that she wants a nice go-cart!

Chad,
I can do about 3" wide. The rolls are 2" malleable iron pipe couplers with 2x1/8 bushings screwed into them and then drilled to accept a 1/2" axle. The ring that has the crank is set up with set screws drilled and tapped into the hex head of the bushing to keep it stationary on the axle. The other two on the bottom spin freely. The pivot point at the back is secured with a pin and "hairpin". It must be removed to get the completed ring out of the machine.
Zach,
Thanks for the complement on the helper!Arbo & Thor (The Junkyard Dog)
