  • Yup....ANOTHER welding cart

But like a proud papa, I must show off my solution...

This was modeled after a couple fine products you all have built as your first project. It isn't my first project ever, just my first behind a MIG (I've used a stick for 3 yrs now). Thanks to all who contributed...you'll know who you are once you see how my creation resembles yours. HH175 bolted to the top plate, bottom pan for tools and whatever else. Holds 80 cu.ft tank in the rear. Made of 1.50 x 1.50 x .125 angle and .125 plate. Integrated 220V extension cord and 120V extension cord (ea. 20ft long).

Some iso's (in PDF) of my original plan...
    Left Side
    Right Side

Here's how it ended up (varied slightly from orig plan). The pictures are hi-res so you folks can zoom in to see the detail. I am not a good photographer and with the sun shining...the detail is hard to see.

If you have questions, msg here or email me and I'd be glad to answer. I already have plans for improvements!

    Thanks,

Nice job! Nice CAD drawing too. That helmet you have is a man-killer. Do yourself a big favor and get a lighter one. I have pinched disk in my neck from years of welding hoods like that.

In the carts I have built, I found it real important to capture the bottom of the bottle to keep it up right going over a bump. Great pictures!

great job on all. The only thing I would have changed is to tip the front of the welder up. Kinda tough on my ole back to lean down to see the dials.....bifocals are a pain.

Rock, why don't you make a case that has the tilt built it? That wouldn't work for the bigger welders, which are sometimes mounted overhead, but the little ones...the hand carry ones..we'd all benefit....maybe even make it, (the part with the controls) rotatable so you could tilt it to just the right angle...just an idea.

tys, that's a nice design. One change I would recommend is replacing the bungee cord with a piece of lightweight chain, covered with clear tubing. I attached mine with an eye bolt on one end and another on the other end attached with a wing nut. If you hit a bump with the bungee cord the bottle is going to sway around. If that happens and the cord breaks, you might have an un-guided missle on your hands. Again, that's a nice job.

Rock: I thought about the angling up, but after seeing one at a local shop, I didn't want it. Only thing I wish I had done was made it about 6 inches taller.

Cope: The tank sits in a cradle half way up, shaped like a U, so it cannot sway left to right. But, I do see your point, if the bungee lets go, it could flop backwards. It is something I will take into consideration (added to upgrade list).

Morpheus: It says weldmark. Looks like Hobart farmed out manufacturing? The covers on both sides say that, yet the gun is a Miller, the front panel says Hobart all over it, and the manual was clearly marked Hobart. The flow gauge is a Smiths. I bought it online through Toll Gas in Minn I think.

                  Thanks for the comments gang!

Thats funny, my welding supply place has "Weldmark" tagged machine, but they are clearly Lincoln SP135s! Interesting.

Morpheus: Sorry, I mis-lead you. My HH175 came with a gauge as well, which I believe is a Smiths. The HH175 was purchased through Toll Gas & Welding Supply in MN.
