Actually most people that know something about the business think the shopping welder is great. Its really got practical written all over it. I build some really slick stuff, but I just had to leave that one the way it was.

I bought that at a welding show here. It was new to the welding scene. It's called The Hobart Handler....no numbers behind the name...cuz it was the first one. It's a 90 amp machine, and it goes low enough to weld the thin top rail that I use to build dog runs and gates and fences and awnings here at the house.

It's demise was not the machine, but the case made it difficult to service...you have to take out every single fastener out of it to work on it. Services folks complained....Hobart listened, as they always do....and came out with the metal case...alot easier to work on. It's a keeper!

I have that very same style handler, and its why I bought a 135 to replace it. The old one had all the smoke escape from the drive motor . I still have it may fix it if I can find a drive motor cheap

BANZAITOYOTA.........I SOLD MY ORIGINAL UNIT TO ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS.......AN OLD RETIRED RAIL ROAD WORKER..........A FEW YEARS AFTER MY SELLING IT THE MOTOR LET THE (MAGIC SMOKE) ESCAPE......... AND HE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH MONEY SO I MODIFIED HIS.............THIS IS WHAT I DID TO GET IT TO WORK.........TOOK LATE MODEL DRIVE MOTOR FROM HANDLER 7144-1, USED THAT SAME FEED HEAD AND GUN. THIS WILL REQUIRE SOME REDRILLING TO MOUNT THE FEED HEAD. THE MOTOR MUST BE LAYED HORIZONTIAL WITH A SMALL SLIGHT MODIFICATION WITH A DREMEL TO FEED HEAD...........CUT A LARGER HOLE IN THE FRONT PANEL SO THE GUN FROM THE 7144-1 WILL FIT THRU IT. REATTACH GUN DROP IN SOME WIRE AND AWAY YOU GO..............5 OR 6 YEARS AGO WHEN I DID THIS THE COST WAS JUST SOME USED PARTS FROM A MACHINE THAT FELL OFF OF A TRUCK GOING DOWN THE ROAD...........MAYBE $50.00-$60.00 BUCKS...........AND THE OLD GUY WAS HAPPY..........................I HAD HIM DO SOME WELDING FOR ME 3 3" PASSES AND WE CALLED IT EVEN.......TIME WAS 2 TRIPS TO THE LOCAL WELDING DISTRIBUTOR AND 3 HOURS LABOR..............................ROCK........[email protected]
