    spiral staircase

I tried to read that ... but I got a headache and had to go lie down... I can't imagine doing that... much less in stainless... some potential for some high $$$$ mistakes there...

    More stairs

Mike B, I m blaming this one on you. Last night I get to work and the boss hands me a paper and says I need you to make this. I look at the paper and I see a sketch of some stairs . By the way, this makes three fab projects that he has me working on a the same time. This is the one draw back to being the only true weldor in the plant, I get all the complex fabrication projects. Now, the layout is no problem for me. The challenging part of this project is trying to build it in the shop space that I have available. You see when the powers that be, had to start cutting cost to bring the new building with in the range of there set budget, the first area they cut costs in was of course the shop. It went from being a 50' X 100' 2 story building with the spare parts inventory on the second story, to a 30' X 50' single story with the most commonly used spare parts inventory taking up 10' X 30' of this floor space. Then the boss's office takes up another 10' X 10'. And by the time you fit everything else into the room free floor space starts to become minimal. Speaking of floors, I still can t believe to cut cost they gave us an asphalt floor instead of concrete . Let me tell you it isn t easy to sweep up debris off the floor. The good news is though that we have been told that this summer they are suppose to be fixing this major blunder, by taking the asphalt out and replace it with concrete. Enough whining

As a side note though, I can guarantee you that nothing of course was cut from the office area, when budget cuts were made.

Now I m wishing that I had one of those Evolution saws that Rocky D has. It would be the perfect tool for cutting the angles on the stringers. Oh well, last night I did the layout on the first stringer, and cut the angles with an .045 thick cut off wheel with a 4 1/2" angle grinder. Today I m going to see If we can rent a magnetic based boring machine to drill all the holes in the stringers for bolting the treads to the stringers. I sure hope this is approved because I really don t want to drill all these holes by hand

Anyway, since the stairs aren t located on the production floor I should be able to post a picture of this project once completed.

By the way, the stairs are replacing a fixed ladder that we use to access an area in the receiving warehouse were we store the rest of our spare parts inventory.
Working...
