  • Hand Bender

Here are pictures of a hand bender that was used to make the trebel clef (sp?) on my bed project. Handy tool and simple to make. This was designed by Steve Norquist, a member of the Mississippi Fore Council, a Blacksmith organization. He said that it was born out of necessity.

The bending pins are on 3" centers but can be varied for different radius bends.

            Hand Bender

            Royal Fe,

            Nice project. Is the tubing 1"? How about the piece you're bending? 1/4" X 1"? 3/16" X 1"? Pins 1/2"?

            Using heat?

            Thanks.

                I want one too!

Any specs on the design would be great, perfect idea for a project to build more projects! Keep up the great work.
                Thanks

The tubing is 3/4", don't know thickness of the material but it felt light compared to rebar!. Pins are 1/2" round stock and don't know the angle of the bend for the handles. Steve told me he thought it was 45 deg but confessed to "what ever the saw was set". He told me that he was using a "bending fork" and having trouble keeping the work straigtht and thought about the pivot point with two handles, genious! and "out of necessity" The trouble is that the whole thing was trial and error. Good idea that I guess must be experimented with to make yours work.

The material being bent in the example is 1/4" thick and I think 1" wide no heat. Wasn't paying attention because I was focused on the trebel cleff. but I was using 3/8" round bar and was easily manipulating this material.

More dimensions on the way as soon as I get my hands on it again, but till then, Trial and error! Good luck worked for me.

Great looking bender. I will definitely have to build one myself. How good is it for bending rebar? If ya spaced the pins differently will you get different sizes of bends?
