  • Tune Bed

Latest project was for a fund raiser and sold in a silent aucton. Lots of fun to make! Anyone get the tune? (singer from Mississippi) Only one note off due to Copywright laws.....

Actually, The drawing of the music was difficult to see alignment of the notes, but the Copywright thing sounds good anyway, don't it?

Yep, it's gonna be here. I named the project the "Love me tender" bed, a bit of contrast to the Rebar! Also thought it fitting of an Elvis song, they'll be here forever also.

great job Royal. What did ya use to cut out the circles? How did ya bend the first thingie on the left? I am sorry I don't know the music lingo. Nice use of rebar. You could always add some chain link fence for a background. I really like heavy duty industrial stuff.

What did ya use to cut out the circles? How did ya bend the first thingie on the left?
I cut the circles very carefully No, my method was to trace a section of tubing about 3" circle on drop 1/4" plate and use my chop saw to cut off the corners. Then I clamped the section of tube on top of two of the plates and the trusty 4.5" grinder to round it off. Don't have a plasma cutter and my torch skills...well are inconsistant, besides I ran out of O2 1 min after starting the project. This took a little time but the results were acceptable.

The "treble cleff" is made from 3/8" round stock. I bent it with a home made hand bender. I'll post a drawing later, pretty handy little device. I don't know much about music either, I guess that's why the first note is wrong(a half a bar too high), but it dosen't matter.

.YOU USED REBAR FOR THE NON SHARP EDGES AFTER BENDING RIGHT
The bed is a queen size and the rebar is 1 1/4". I just cut the ends square, the top rail runs the full width of the bed( stretches from the outside of the left vertical to the right side of the right vertical). The lower cross piece runs from the inside of the verticals. I kinda fill the gap with rod...adds to the character and price!

EACH NOTE BEING 6 TO 10 INCH'S TALL
The notes are about 3" with the vertical bar about 8" to 8.5" . The length varies to keep from having a long "stick out" to poke someone.

I believe that it is okay to "borrow"
It's OK to use my ideas, I sware I wont get you for copywright infringement.

I'm not exactly sure but I think around $300. I know it sounds strange that I don't know but I donated it to a local AIDS benefit that auctions art around Valentines Day. I had to work the night of the benefit and didn't get to watch the auction. I will know in a few weeks when they send me a notice of donation.

                            Royal,
that is a good trick on cutting out circles. I will have to remember that. Do ya think this method will work on 16 ga sheetmetal? I would love to see your bender and the plans.
