  • Cheaters for auto helmets?

I asked my local supply house where I bought my Hobart helmet for a cheater to help me see and he said that they do not have them for the auto darkening helmets. Is this true? That would be a bummer.

A standard Cheater will fit in the Hobart hood. What I do is open the front protector up and slide it in between the front protector and the auto lens. It works great.

Remember, there are no silly questions. Atleast none that have not been covered.
A "cheater" is a lens put in a welding helmet that acts like a magnifing glass. I think they come in different "diopters", or amount of magnification.

Cheaters come in different focal lengths 1.00 1.50 1.75 2.00 and 2.50. Start with a 1.00, as you get older you will need a stronger magnification...at 60 years, I now use a 1.50 for my detail TIG stuff, with my tri-focal glasses, and just my glasses for stick and MIG, and everything else. If you get one that is too strong you will be inviting severe headaches.

You young fellas haven't heard of them because you can still see...it's us old folks that have to have 'em

Hey Aaron, been doing alot of research for my new plasma cutter. Not sure what I am going to end up with. Something in the MM 380 class I suspect.

As far as glasses go I went from nothing directly to bifocals (I knew things were getting a little hard to see).
