Didn't ITW a few years ago buy a well respected U.S. manufacture of plasma cutters and merge them in with Miller Electric? I can't remember the company's name.

OK MY 2 CENTS WORTH.............ON PLASMA CUTTERS......... WE'VE (MILLER/HOBART) BEEN IN THIS CUTTER BUSINESS FOR QUITE AWHILE.......HOBARTS HAS IMPORTED, LINDE'S, L-TECH'S, PANASONIC'S ETC. WE ARE CURRENTLY (MILLER) SELLING THE THUNDER AND SPECTRUM THRU THE RETAIL OUTLETS WITH SUCESS. UNITS SEEM TO HOLD UP WELL WITH LITTLE OR NO TROUBLE. MOST PROBLEMS ARE CONSUMABLES, THAT I'VE SEEN.......... TRYING TO GET THE LAST MILE OUT OF THEM.......... I THINK WE ARE AT LEAST EQUALE TO THE COMPETITORS IN QUALITY AND RELIABILITY........... HOWEVER IN THE SAME LIGHT ALL MANUFACUTERS (MOSTLY) HAVE RELIABLE MACHINES NOW A DAYS.......... SO IT KINDA TURNS INTO WHAT YOU'VE HAD SUCESSS WITH IN THE PAST.......... I have a hypertherm, the machine works well, the consumables are inexpensive compared to others, and if you have any problems, customer service at hypertherm is one of the best around.
In my humble opinion hypertherm is the only machine to have.
I have a max 43 that 6 years old, and a powermax 1100 that is 4 years old, both get used hard.
The 1100 is on a cut table in the shop, I can cut 3/4" plate all day long with no problem. The 43 is my portable unit and gets knocked about on jobs, and rattled around in the back of a truck all the time, no complaints on either.

Hypertherm

I love the hypertherm max 100 also,I used a sticker off one to get a discount on my big esab.My friend has a cnc burn table also.It very nice.

You should also compare the consumable cost for each machine.
I have a small miller 2050 and a larger hypertherm max100 for mechanized cutting (which I absolutely love). I find that the genuine hypertherm parts are about 25% cheaper then the miller parts. In case you didn't know, miller uses hypertherm guns (so even they think that hypertherm rules)... Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash miller, they make a good welder, but in the plasma technology they are not tops.

They are close in cutting performance being 40 amp machines. I can’t speak for the Hypertherm 600 but the Miller Spectrum 625 will run very nicely on 8KW generator power. Plus the Miller draws 30% less power. The Miller will draw 33amps on a 208V line and 30 amps on a 230V, the Hypertherm numbers per their web site are 46/40 on a 208/240 line respectfully. Hope this helps.

Tim, I have heard nothing but the absolute best from Hypertherm and as you know that is the way I am going. Either way you go let me know when you plan to order so that we may be able to get a discount if we order together.

I would give a hard look at the new Thermal dynamics cutmaster 50.It's nice.I do own a smaller version,and also a esab 1125 that works great.You notice I didn't say esab in the smaller ones.They work pretty good,but no pilot arc for expanded type metal.You probally could not really make a mistake in buying any plasma from Thermal,Miller,Hypertherm.I would throw esab in on the larger machines.
