  • hobart beta mig 200

    there is a hobart beta mig for sale used(heavily)it looks complete and the owner said the motor runc but he hasnt tried to weld with it. he wants 300.00 for it was wondering what i should ck on it before i buy it.

    First thing is to check the gun and cable for breaks. This unit will not work without it and you will find a new one hard to come by and expensive. Second will the drive motor turn. Just pull the gun trigger and see if the drive ro;;s turn then sweep the rheostate up and down to see if the motor changes speed. The last but least weld with it and see if it welds to be sure you are getting what you are paying for. This welder sold for around $1,200 new so $300 would not be a bad price for a working welder.

      I have had one for maybe twenty years and have had zero problems with it. I put on a Tweco gun to get a 15' cable.
      What do I know I am just an electronics technician.
