  • .035 vs .030

OK enough with the Rock thing ---lets get an answer to a real question--i have MM210 and am currently an have always run .035 wire (welding mostly 11 ga tube/10 ga sheet and 1/4" sheet) would i be better off / the same / or worse off swappin out to .030 wire ----keep in mind i haver never used smaller wire (can't be that much different--- or can it) what differences will i see ?????

    Cats,

You will not really see much of a difference when switching from .035 to .030 hard wire with the Millermatic 210. Going to a smaller diameter wire is usually done to help lower the amperage output delivered to the pieces of steel being welded. With the gauges of steel that you mentioned I would probably stay with the wire you are using.

The big difference also is in the cost of the wire. The .035 is usually cheaper.

      Cats,
I have the MM210 and initially ran .035 in it and after awhile I switched back to .030. The .030 I run has a copper coating and makes an extremely smooth arc and I noticed significantly less spatter. I prefer .030 over the .035 especially on materials 1/4" or less. This is only my preference.---Grant
