Will a Oxygen bottle work for 25/75 mix??

Hey everyone-
The auto shop and metal shop at my high school has been closed for about 6 or 7 years now. I found some gas cylinders out back where it used to be, and asked a teacher about them....he said i could have it as long as it was okay with my parents. Of course they agreed! I was wondering if an oxygen cylinder could be filled by my welding shop with a 25/75 mix? On the little lable it says "Compressed Oxygen" but thats all I can see on it. I know some bottles are not good enough or something to be filled with certain gasses. So if I get this bottle can I have it filled with a 25/75 Co2/Argon mix?

Can it be done? Yes
Will a supplier do it? Possibly, but more likely, they will probably NOT.
The cylinders should have a test date stamped in them, and if they are out of test, will need to be retested. They will also probably require a valve change. Then, they will need to be evacuated before they can be recharged.
Also, those cylinders might belong to some welding supplier who never picked them up from the school. Depending on how suppliers work in your area, the supplier may just confiscate the cylinder from you and keep it if it's his, or may hold it for the owner.
There should be a neck stamp or boss on the cylinder that indicates the ownership.

so would there be a date stamped on the bottle to verify when it was last certified?

Yes, near the top of the cylinder. Something like10-03 with a star behind it indicating it was tested October 2003 and the star indicating 10 year cert.

I traded in a old soda companys co2 for a fresh tank of 75/25 I was probly lucky though come to think of it they gave me a smaller tank than what i traded in I now have the 80 size traded up
I did give them I song and dance about how I just want to weld can you please help me and told him all the other products i will be interested in buying in the future I think he was just being nice and hoping for my return buisness but hey I'm sure it will work I'm looking to get a plasma cutter from them and oxy cet torches and tanks in the neer future

Probably not that cylinder but maybe a trade. I believe 75/25 is siphon feed (tube from valve to near bottom of cylinder).

Yeah, you could maybe make a trade. I'm not sure. I do know that you should make sure that whoever had the bottles owned them and was NOT renting them though. If someone was leasing the bottles, and you picked em up, you may either get them taken back by the supplier or have to pay rent on them. Like Franz said, check everything before you act.
