  • What did you get for Christmas?

What did you get for Christmas? I'll start off.
In helping my father-in-law move his new deep freeze, he gave me his older, smaller deep freeze, only two years old. In the moving of that, I happen to ask him if a belt drive air compressor would be quieter then my oil-less 6 gallon noise maker. He said I could have his old compresser, which is one I have heard about for 10 years or so. I said yes.
It is a Champion with a 80 gallon tank, hoz. and 250lbs capable pressure. Weighs over 600lbs. It is now sitting all plumbed and wired in my garage. I don't know the year it was made but it's one nice compressor.
Nice father-in -law I have to say. Tell us all what you got !!
Also I have a new saber saw with lazer and new Arc One inverter on the way.
    Tell us what you got!!
    Thanks Tom

Can you post a picture of the steel ? How much did it cost?

Got my first inverter, a used PowCon 300SM. I'll be hooking it up this weekend. Any comments on this machine? A Miller Dynasty 300DX is still on my shopping list, but this sort of fell into my lap. I'll have to see if I can get a manual for it. It's just the box, but I've got lots of leads for SMAW, and it looks as if I should also be able to hook up my old Miller 80A feeder, on which I've upgraded the remote plug to work with my 14-pin Trailblazer. If I do, I'll be using .045 wire (it's all I have drive rolls for), and there is flux-cored in it right now from field use with the TB. Do I use the short-circuit or spray settings? It has a toggle switch for one or the other for when using a feeder.

Anyone have experience with using a feeder with .045 solid and gas? How can I make this puppy do some real spray?

I got money that I'm going to use towards a tank of C25...
I tried to talk my wife into getting a gift certificate for steel from the welding/fab place I go, but couldn't get her to do it...

PowCon! My favorite subject. I guess you got oner of the ones that sold on Ebay?

Use the spray setting for FCAWand spray and middle setting for short arc. It does a sweet job on DC stick also.

It will surely spray .045. My 200 SM will spray .035. When I get home, I will post a link to Arc-Products, the guys who sell parts and service on PowCon. If yours didn't come with a manual, they sell them for $22-25.00. Good machine. Rock worked for PowCon back when he had to work for a living.

BTW, if you hear the ticking sound in short arc or spray mode, the gun is hot! My Amphenol connector has some slop and if I bump it just right the ticking starts. Not a big deal, I just wiggle it until its quiet.

Now I'm really getting excited! I assume I'll want 98/2 Ar/CO2 for spraying .045, right? I've never used gas in my old 80A feeder before, I sure hope her gas solenoids and valves work! I'll have to go get some .045 solid wire and try it out.

I'm mostly planning on using the PowCon for in-shop SMAW, so's I don't have to run the Trailblazer in the driveway and drag the leads inside, like I normally do. (The tombstone is at my dad's location of our two-man shop.) I mostly GMAW in my shop, and this PowCon looks like it may nicely supplement my MM175. Can keep the blue with .030 for short-circuit of 16-ga., and hopefully this little red number will usher in a whole new era.

Oh, I found Arc Products via a Google search. They only mention that they bought out PowCon for service and parts, so I e-mailed and asked for product information. Let them offer me something from there.

You got a new tree? Of couse, it would be easier to see if that ugly guy in the helmet weren't standing it front of it!

Just kidding! Seriously, I like the new sweater. I would think you'd take that silly helmet off (at least while in the house) so it would have been easier to put it on, though.
