  • What 12" disc sander do ya'll use?

I am in the market for a 12" disc sander and wonder what you guys use. Basically, I am wondering if I need to step up to a decent machine in the $200-$300 price range or if I can use the cheapies from Harbor Freight or eBay.
    Thanks for the opinions.

I just bought a Harbor freight model on sale. I appears to work pretty good.

Jim, thanks for the info. That was the one I was looking at, too. You do not seem to have a problem with it bogging down or anything like that?

I bought the 9" combo belt sander/disc. It's not bad for light stuff, but it does bog down. If you're looking for a REAL grinder, I've had my eye on this one for a while:
Grizzly Industrial, Inc. is a national retail and internet company providing a wide variety of high-quality woodworking and metalworking machinery, power tools, hand tools and accessories. It comes highly recommended by Jim Shrock of www.shrockworks.com he told me about it way back when.

          Grizzely Sander

Blues I think Scott V has the 1725 rpm model of that unit. Maybe he will post and tell us how he likes it. David

I bought the Grizzly G7297 last fall. It's a beast. I havn't used it on metal yet but it sure can do a number on hard maple in no time flat. I paid $130.

When I got that model I was kicking myself for not buying it first over every other tool I have bought except maybe my air compressor. It is made in the same factory as the jet model that is about $350.00 more. There are a few differences between them but,not any worth talking about.

Hey Scott, is there any advantage of the 1725 ft model vs. the 3400ish model? I would think that more ft/min would be better for material removal. Am I missing something here?

I think that could be true, but I just use the right grit for the job.I also feel you can use this one for wood without burning. Not that I do all that much with wood.Maybe plastic or other things too.I also just like 1725 motors better then 3450 in general.
