  • HH 175/135 protective cover

I just got myself one of these snazzy covers for Christmas yesterday:

I was wondering if anyone else had one ? I got the thing thinking it'd be great for the times when I might go a few days without using my welder when I'm working on something else to keep it clean from grinder dust/dirt/etc. But after getting the thing and finding out it doesn't have a cutout for the power cord or gas line in the back I'm quite confused as to it's intended use ?

I guess I can find someone to sew up the edges of it if I put a slit in the back of it but must admit I'm pretty disappointed that it doesn't have a slit with a piece of velcro or something on it.

It's a very high quality piece though.

    Jack,

When I made the cover for my I Miller thought about putting a slit and a velcro closure for the gas line (didn't worry about the power cord). But instead I ended up taking a small combo wrench (open/closed) and hanging it on the cart near the gas line fitting. Now when I cover the welder I just grab it and disconnect the line and put the cover on, sliding it over the power cord. Takes a few seconds but the cover fits better.
    Regards, George

That's an idea but I'd cut a slit in it for the gas line before I'd undo the gas line every time I put the cover on it or I'd end up just not using it one.

        Jack,

It's sounds like they put a LOT more thought into the MM251 cover than they put into the one you got. It's a shame, too, because the covers are too expensive to have important details missed.

My wife made my HH175 cover for me from denim and polar-fleece. She did an excellent job of making it fit the machine. Perhaps when your wife's nesting instinct hits full tilt you can persuade her to practice sewing on this, you know, to prevent mistakes on the important stuff, like the kid's clothing.

I'm sure that most of the people here can operate a sewing machine with some practice. I've done much sewing for stage work - lighting/projection screens, drape, etc. It takes about 30 minutes to learn the basic operation, then the thing runs itself.

A cover made of Cordura or similar fabric would be a piece of cake to sew.

Leave the embroidered Miller or Hobart logo to grandma though.

I sure hope that "nesting instinct" kicks in Aaron. She can't sew a bit right now .. If my buttons fall off I have to sew them back on.

I've run a sewing machine before but don't have one or I'd do it myself.

How is the MM251 cover designed ?

Keep in mind the MM251 has a built-in bottle rack on the back. The cover is basically four-sided. It has a top, face, and the right and left sides. Two velcro straps connect the right and left side together. On the left side is a large pocket. On the right side the cover is shaped to fit over the cable-holder, so it covers the leads too.

I'll try to take a few shots of it tonight.

The other thing to consider in the Slit vs no slit on the cover is that every time you disconect the hose, you are going to waist the gas that is in the hose. It might not seem like much but it will add up.

                    Jack,

Pictures will have to wait. I even cleaned the shop! But when I turned on my digital camera, the little indicator light started blinking. You know, the one that says you forgot to bring home a memory card.

Some people are real morons. I can relate.

I was disapponted myself. My wife wanted to make me one but when I found one for 39.00 I told her not to bother. I said "For that price it will save you the effort and it will have all the cutouts in exactly the right places". Boy was I wrong. She ended up cutting a slit and adding velcro just as you suggest. I have no desire to take a wrench to my gas line everytime I want to cover it for a night. As I said...dissappointing.

Thanks for your input Tony, it's good to hear someone else feels the same way I do. I'll try and run getting the design of that thing changed by Rock if he ever comes back from vacation.

Any chance you could snap a pic of your modifications Tony ?

                          IT IS AN OUTRAGE!

I have been thinking about getting a cover also.

What the he## are they thinking of--- no slit or hole for the power cord or gas line?

I'll wait for Rock to have it redesigned.
By the way, I have seen it advertised for $25 I think, not $39.

why not just put a QD on the gas line. sure would be a lot quicker.

Well, it may take me a while, but I eventually get there.
