  • Miller GS 225

I just bought a Millser Gold Seal GS 225 AC arc welder from Tractor supply. It was missing the ground lead but it was a good price. It looked like they've had it for awhile. I can't find any info specifically on it and I didn't get any owners manuals with it. Is this a good welder welding thick material.

    Thank you in advance.

I also got a hobart kit with rod holders, bruch, hammer, etc. and a hobart hood 4.5 x 5 hood with a 10 lense in it.

I see no one else has answered you so I will tell you what I can. A 225 amp machine will weld anything you can pick up and then some. If it is an AC only machine you will need to make certain you use only AC electrodes. My personal suggestion is 6011 or 6013 these will weld just about anything and do not require any special storage. Most supply houses will have what you need, just tell them you have an AC only machine.

hey Mike, how come you're not out ridin' that new dream machine???

Oh, yeah, I remember you said something about putting it away for the winter...just think, if you were out here in San Diego with me...you'd be ridin' all year round!!

I'll bet you have it right in your computer room with you right now, huh!

Hey Rocky, I did put it away (in the garage) for the winter. It's funny you mention putting it in the house. I grew up in the kind of home where you might find a transmission being rebuilt on the kitchen table in January, yet I married a woman who will make you strip your dirty clothes outside and will not let you in the house with shoes on, even if you are bleeding (that part is from experience). I have been to California before and it is beautiful and warm. I have been to Hawaii and San Antonio Tx. also, yet I chose to come back to North East Ohio every time. I guess I like the seasons changing once in a while. Just last night I was on the phone with my brother in law in California, he is a welding engineer for a company in Kansas that builds and repairs power plants. I am a newly ordained CWI and he was telling me the job opportunities out there are huge. If I ever close up shop and want to travel again, I will probably go to work for a company like that and visit California again. Talk to you later.

Rock, it's called getting old. There comes a point in your life where you have to decide if getting wet, cold, sore AND having to clean the bike is worth it. Are you currently working in Troy? Are you being sent somewhere fun??
