  • Welder, Plasma Cutter, Helmet

I am starting a project this winter where I will be welding mostly 3"x3"x3/16" mild steel tubing, 1/4" plate and maybe one piece of 1/2" plate. I haven't welded since high school and that's been 15 years. I'll need to cut 1.5" and 2" holes in the tubing and 1/4" plate so I can weld in mechanics tube for bearings. Anyway, I need to be able to weld those things, and others, and be able to cut those holes. I was thinking I would drill them but a guy suggested a plasma cutter instead. He was selling CEA stuff that I had never heard of and can't find much on. I've seen a Miller plasma cutter that will do 1/2" for around $1,150 and the hobart AC welder for around $250. I'm thinking get a decent plasma cutter and get a welder that will do the job but I don't know if I am thinking correctly. What would you reccomend? Am I thinking in the right way?

Also, any nice helmet you would reccomend?

    Thank you.
