  • Victor Cutting Torch Help!!!!

I have been searhing the internet and my local welding supply dealers for reasonable prices on a Oxy-Acetylene Cutting/ Welding kits. The reasons that I chose to buy an actylene out-fit is that I can't afford a plasma cutter at this time, and I am not a professional welder that need pression cutting. I would like to know what is the best cutting out-fit for a moderate user like myself. I also would like to know what is the major differences between the Victor Bands, Victor Compatable, and Gerneric Brands becaues they all look the same to me.

    Thanks,

My advise is to purchase the brand that your local welding shop handles. If you are ever 'caught short' the parts/ supplies are only a short distance away. Airco ,Victor, Harris, and Smith styles are all popular, STAY AWAY from any thing being advertised as 'new',
most 'new' systems disappear after a few years, leaving you with a useless tool.
work safe, always wear your safety glasses.

Ed in preceeding post listed major US brands which are all good. Their patents have expired so many companies make copies here and imports. There is even company under same parent corp. as Hobart/Miller that makes gas welding/cutting torch tips at this link.

Some of the copies are good others are bad. Some say even OEM stuff isn't what it was. (gilded memories)

Most welding supplies sell major brands and some cheap stuff. If you buy cheap stuff make sure tips ect. is interchangable with major brand. Victor is most common brand.

        Thanks,
Morgan, I bought a Victor portable outfit about a year ago and have been pleased with it. It came with the regs., torch, goggles hoses and tanks{10cf ace. and 20cf ox.} I think I paid like $189 for it.
