Recently purchased a Hobart Handler 175. Need some advise on how to wire up the 220volt electrical recepticle outlet. It is a 3 wire recepticle and I have 4 wires: black (hot), red (hot), white (neutral) and green (ground). Which wires should I be connecting?

You might want to check out wiring an electric clothes dryer. The dryer wiring standard has gone from 3 to 4 wires - same issue I think. Another great source for wiring info is your local electrical inspector. Here in Dayton, Ohio the inspectors are very helpful. They have saved me a lot of money and hassles over the years besides providing information that helps me protect my family.

You can look at page 16 of your user manual. They refer to the "hot" wires as L1 and L2 (line 1 and 2).
