  • Ridgid grinders

    Hey S didn't you buy one of those Ridgid grinders? Anyone else? How do yall like it so far? What did you have to pay for it? I bought one at the HD and its still in the box. Before I used it I wanted to know what you think about it. I also got some sanding disks like Aaron was talking about.I don't know if I got the right backing plate yet, as I jsut got home with it.     David;
    I bought one. They have a lifetime warrantee if you buy before December 31st. After that I think 3 years. Metabo makes then for the Depot. 8 Amps, comes with a plastic case. $89.00.
    I used mine with a cut off wheel to cut some 5/8" studs. Seemed to have plenty of power. Grinds good with a Norzon wheel.
    There's a Ridgid service in tampa that can repair them.
    I figure its worth a try with the lifetime warrantee.

      I bought one also. Been very pleased with it so far. Doesn't seem to be lacking in the power department at all.

              At least with the compulsion to buy instead of drink you have more left when you are done than a pile of empty cans.

                Skip the rigid and go for the real deal the metabo , yes metabo amkes them for rigid but there were no extra parts made and metabo has it in the contract they will not service them if anything goes wrong and if you read home depots warranty closly you will find its not all that good , ask the guys at home depot what happens if you retrn or somthin goes wrong after 3 motnhs cuase the store cant take them back you have to call home depot, rigid isnt even making the tools, the gave home depot a limited agreement for using the name because they dont want to get stuck with the returns , the company that is doing all the contracting and making all the tools but the grinder , jig saw and one sander( metabo) are all rybio, i guess know one else has also noticed rybio is now only in depot ( all owned by the same corparation)( yes i know my spelling sucks i apologize) back to the subject just spend the extra few buacks and buy a real metabo there def worth the extra money just my 2 cents
                ps i heard this from one of my good friends that work at depot

                  Well someone is more than likely going to honor the warranty and after that if they need more than brushes or a bearing its going in the trash can. 79 or 89 bucks, by that time you got your moneys worth is the way I see it. I am not going to put a 50$ armature in one anyway, will throw it in the scrap shed and use a part off of it if I can. I have been using B&D mostly and have 4 or 5 of the same model, try to do that when I can then even a broken one has some value. We are all letting Jim be the tester for us.

                    Hapless Freight has a 4 incher for 15 bucks.

                    if it dies it goes it the can.

                    I've been running mine like a rented mule and it does the job w/ a 60 grit flapwheel.

                      I have 3 of that grade grinder on hand - not necessarily *****bar Freight but same quality. I burned the motor out of one, somebody else stripped the gears out of the 2nd & the third was still working last time I checked. But I have a heavier grade 6 inch that I usually reach for, either Skil or B&D "pro grade". It seems to be holding up pretty well. If I ever get desperate enough I can probably salvage one out of the three cheapies.

                        The first time I ever saw any rigid powertools, ie miter saws, table saws, band saws etc, was as a tourist at some show at an airport in OK city a few years ago. I looked at a few of them and saw that they were all made in china. I haven't looked at any of them since. I don't seem to have much luck with power tools from there.
