Is there any proper way to treat?...i heard from somebody you just get it till where the iron is at somewhat 2000 degrees and then let it cool slowly?....any other special procedures?

Ive had good luck heat treating in a coal fired forge, but you have to know what kind of steel you are working with. Mild steel can not be heat treated. Pick up a good book on blacksmithing, that has a section on heat treating. Old chilsels are good to experiment with.
I have been able to case harden mild steel, where only a few thousands of the surface is hardened by using a special flux powder on the portin to be treated as it is heated.

Metalurgy! Knowledge is power!
Well! There are Sooooooo many variables with regard to heat treating. Such as the 2 basics, hardening or annealing. Then additional factors must be considered such as type of metal, pure or alloy, if alloy then alloy composition will play a big part. Different steels heat treat differently, some harden when cooled rapidly (quenched) still others harden when allowed to cool slowly. There are so many variables you have to consider that it can seem overwhelming at times. Understand that some heat treating affects metal on the grainular level (grainular cohesion, coherence & elongation) and other heat treating affects metal on the molecular level (phasing, exciting, realigning & retarding)!
Look, I don't want to be depressing about this but to effectively heat treat any type of metal (and the key word here is "effectively") you really better know your stuff. Any dimwit can crack a rock by getting it red hot and dropping it into a large body of cold water and many a dimwit has ruined many a good piece of metal treating it in the same manner. You can change the molecular structure of any metal but it takes time and the metal has to want to change!
........then again there are those that believe if you hold your nose and blow really hard you will increase your intelligence!
