    Hey all,

I ended up getting some .035 solid wire for my HH175. I installed it tonight and tried it out. The problem I'm having is that I dont get the fine dropletts of slag anymore. Now they are big drops of slag and it pops while welding. Also the wire seems to melt up into the tip and block it up sometimes. Anyone have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? The gas flow seems ok and I dont think I'm doing anything different than before.

    Thanks,

You are going to have to turn that thing up for the bigger wire. 035 is a LOT bigger than 030. Burn back is usually too slow wire speed.

What material thickness are you welding on? And what are your settings for this thickness?
MigMaster 250- Smooth arc with a good touch of softness to it. Good weld puddle wetout. Light spatter producer.
Ironman 230 - Soft arc with a touch of agressiveness to it. Very good weld puddle wet out. Light spatter producer.

          Sberry27:
I havent had a chance to try it out yet. I should have time to get into my garage tonight though.

          Dan:
I was welding 1/8 inch steel. Tap #3 and I believe the wirespeed was around the halfway point. I dont remember the numbers specifically. I'll have more details tonight.

Since I'm new to this, I might have missed something. All I did was take the .030 spool out. And put the .035 spool in. I also changed tips. I did cut the spring down as was talked about in previous posts. Before I had the nut barely on to keep the tension down.

I figured it out tonight. I had to adjust (back it off) the drive roll pressure. I think it works/runs better now than it ever did before. I didnt really adjust anything since I bought it brand new in May until tonight.

            Dan:
I ran it on 1/8 inch steel on tap #3 and wire speed on 60. The manual says I should be running it at around 75. It always seems to me that the manual has the wire speed too high for me.

Yeah, the door chart settings for the wire speed are pretty high for me too. You are actually running a little more wire then I do. Generally for 1/8" with an .035 solid wire I run some where between 50 and 55 on the wire speed and tap #3.
