My girlfriend knows I want an auto darkening hood so she wants to buy me one for X mas. I was wondering which one everyone uses or recommends. I personnaly like the stars and stripes one, but I want to make sure it will work well. Also, how does everyone keep their welding lense fog free on those long welds? I don't know if I'm a heavy breather or what, but I'm about to use a snorkel to get the job done! Thanks alot for any info guys....

If that's really an issue for you, check out the Speedglas line of hoods and www.weldingsupply.com . Their hoods are designed with a vent so your exhaled breathe is directed out of the hood.Proud Owner of the MM251 and Spectrum 375 Cutmate

Be GENTLE with it if you get one. I work in a welding supply store, and we sell a lot of hoods. When the Hobart hoods first came out, we stocked and sold them. After a month or two, they started coming in wanting a new one, cause the shell broke. I traded them out, and got replacements from Miller, but it was'nt easy. I'm sure it was a little bit of the both customer and manufacturer's fault. The hoods are pretty light, therefore, THIN.
On a positive note, the lenses seem to hold up OK. Remember, if you get one, and have problems with it, You're supposed to contact the manufacturer for replacement, NOT where you bought it!!!
