I have a Hobart mig 200 and as I stated before it has worked fine for years and now it spatters. It is powerful enough to blow a hole in the metal but for welding it just spatters. The wire has always been the same and the tip is clean. Rock, you told me to scope the output. I scope right at the wire and had approx 35volts and a clean straight dc voltage. Any other sugguestion. I am using a argon mix gas the same as always. I have take the pc board out and every thing looks alright. Should I replace the NE566N timer chips? The 50v caps on Bd? What does the trim pot set on the board. Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated. The bd I have is a 408277 Rev 2.

Hi Ken........I do not have the board print.........However I think the number you referenced is the bare board print........ There should be a white or buff colored sticker on the board that is the board number.............. The pot your questoning is as I recall (from Memory) is your run in trim pot only.............. By the way what specification number is the unit................Hang in there we can help........................Rock..

Ken, It could still be an output Diode that is open. When you lose one the caps in the unit will still keep the voltage up but when welding you will not have good clean rectification. I have seen this on occasion, You will need to disconect each diode and see which of the 4 might be the problem. It should have contnuity in only one direction when you check resistance.
Keep trying
